Why Duck Eggs Are Better Than Chicken Eggs

Many people raise chickens and don't even consider raising ducks. The truth is, domestic ducks don't need water the same way wild ducks do. The water feature is nice and full of entertainment for the whole family, but is not necessary.

Ducks are quite disease tolerant, so much more so than chickens. I will create another post about raising ducks vs. chickens later, for now I'll get back on topic.

Many people that are allergic to chicken eggs, can actually eat and enjoy duck eggs. The reason for this is the difference in proteins. Chicken eggs contain more proteins like ovalbumin, conalbumin, and lysozyme than in duck eggs. Since there are fewer of these proteins in duck eggs, you maybe able to consume them, depending on your sensitivity.

Duck eggs have a higher concentration of protein than chicken eggs, making them a great source of energy and are more nutritionally dense.

Duck eggs contain higher levels of healthy fats such as monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Duck eggs also include twice as much omega-3 fatty acids than chicken eggs, which are essential for healthy brain development and cardiovascular health.

Duck eggs are higher in minerals, such as iron, zinc, and selenium, than chicken eggs. They are also higher in vitamin A, which helps maintain healthy vision.

Duck eggs have a higher yolk-to-white ratio than chicken eggs, making them richer and creamier. They  are larger than chicken eggs, making them better for baking and cooking applications.

Duck eggs have a much tougher shell than chicken eggs, making them more difficult to crack and less likely to break.

This gives them a longer shelf life than chicken eggs, and making them a better choice for long-term storage. This also makes duck eggs less likely to contain bacteria than chicken eggs, making them safer to consume.

When I had done some research on duck eggs vs. chicken eggs, I began doing more research on owning ducks along side chickens, and even vs. chickens. Which will be in a future article. I will say it made me second guess the starting my chicken flock again, though I was two to three months too late in having the opportunity to even make that decision.

In the end, duck eggs are better for us, and seemingly amazing in the amount of nutritional value they hold! They are much more rare than chicken eggs, and more expensive, but if you can get your hands on them, or even raise your own ducks, I would definitely go for it!
